Deflection of Cathode Rays in a Magnetic Field
Experimental demonstration, Phywe Company, Göttingen

In the mid-nineteenth century, attempts to conduct electricity through a vacuum in discharge tubes lead to the discovery of cathode rays, particle beams composed of electrons. These beams can be deflected by magnets. A fluorescent screen makes the effect visible.
