The Cosmos as Electronic Simulation
Computer program for virtual travel through outer space Chris Laurel, 2001–2005
With the development of computer technology, electronic models emerge. These simulations of astronomic interrelations eclipse all of the mechanical models’ achievements. The “Celestia” program, developed using open-source technology and freely available on the Internet since 2001, with its time-lapse portrayals and ability to change locations at speeds millions of times greater than the speed of light, allow virtual journeys to areas beyond our galaxy.
