The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science together with the Comenius-Garden in Berlin organizes workshops for children.

The workshop "Künstler, Wissenschaftler, Kinder und das Nichts" (Artists, scientists, children and nothingness) was held in 2003. The aim of the workshop was to initiate a dialogue between different fields of knowledge. In diverse ways, children, artists and research fellows from the Max Planck Institute were studying aspects of the nothing such as zero, vacuum, void, death and disappearance. The joint work started from questions such as: Can things become so small that they disappear? What is at the end of time? Is there nothing in an empty room? What is two pencils minus three pencils?

In preparation for the Einstein-exhibition, the workshop “Weltbilder” (world pictures) was held at the Comenius Garden in 2004. At the workshop, scientists from the Max-Planck-Institute and children dealt with questions such as: Does the world have an end? Can time run faster or slower? Where is above and below on earth? How can a magnet move things? What is light made of?

Chosen results of the studies are presented in film clips to be seen in the foyers of the ground floor and the second floor.
