Heliometer
Special type of telescope, Utzschneider and Fraunhofer, 1815

The halves of a dissected objective are displaced to match images of adjacent stars; the size of the displacement is a measure of their angular distance. Since this distance changes as the Earth moves through space, even astronomical distances can be determined with the heliometer.
