Galileo’s Telescope
Galileo Galilei, around 1620, replica

The telescope is invented around 1609. Galileo recognizes its importance immediately and improves its construction. With the telescope, he observes mountains on the moon and discovers four of the moons of Jupiter. The telescope becomes a symbol of the heliocentric astronomy condemned by the Church.
