The Art of Separating: Florentine Bottle for Aqua Regia
17th – 18th century

The Florentine bottle is used in alchemy to separate non-mixable liquids and as a dropper for carefully administering minute quantities of a valuable liquid.

The inscription “aqua regia” indicates a special substance: it is a mixture of acids that dissolves metals, including gold. A stroke of gold on a porcelain plate and a drop of “aqua regia” reveal the quality of the gold.
