Einsteins triumph
Light deflection near the Sun
Einstein predicted as a consequence of his theory a value for the light deflection of 1,75 arcseconds (corresponding to 0,005 degree), which is twice the value according to Newtons theory.

This became verified in May 1919 by astronomical observations of a British expedition, led by Eddington. This event made Einstein suddenly famous also in the non-scientific public.
