Ernst Mach’s Mechanics
The Science of Mechanics: A Critical and Historical Exposition of Its Principles, London 1893

Mach’s work is a critique of the dogmatism in the physics of his day. One chapter is dedicated to the critique of Newton’s principle of inertia. The inertia of a body is not a property of the body, Mach argues, but rather an effect exerted on the body by all other bodies of the universe.
