Maxwell’s Wheel
Demonstration of the inertia of a rotating body, Eberhard Gieseler, 1905

A flywheel is attached to two wound-up strings. After the wheel unrolls, the inertia of the rotating wheel lifts it back up to nearly the same elevation. A similar device was supposedly Maxwell’s favorite for demonstrating the conservation of energy.
