Einstein's Letter to Schrödinger
Princeton, September 10, 1942

Einstein asks Schrödinger to scrutinize empirical evidence to determine whether the magnetic field of the Earth is symmetrical. He assumes that this field is induced by electrical currents. Such currents in the Earth’s crust would generate an asymmetrical field, because of the high conductivity of the oceans. Currents in the Earth’s core would generate a symmetrical one.
