Plasma discharge in the Wendelstein 7-AS

Tangential view of the plasma.

The light contours near the plasma boundary hint at an island-like field structure that is used to remove particles from the boundary layer in a controlled manner ("Island Divertor").

Limits of operation in the W-7AS

Electron temperature: 79 Million degrees

Ion temperature: 17 Million degrees

Electron density: 3.5*1020 particles per cubic metre

Energy confinement time: 60 milliseconds
