Curved Universes Before Einstein: Schwarzschild's Cosmological Speculations
In notes from 1899 and in a publication from 1900, Karl Schwarzschild speculates about the possibility that the geometry of the universe is non-Euclidean. Besides Euclidean, flat space he considers two types of curved spaces, the elliptical and the hyperbolic.
