Einstein sends the publication of the Entwurf Theory to Ernst Mach. In an accompanying letter he emphasizes the role of Mach’s “ingenious studies about the foundations of mechanics” and suggests the possibility of verifying the equivalence principle by observing the deflection of light rays.
