The Tenerife Experiment started in 1984, thanks to a cooperation between Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories, now Jodrell Bank Observatory of the University of Manchester, and the Teide Observatory in Tenerife, ran by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias.
