A New State of Matter
Albert Einstein: Quantentheorie des einatomigen idealen Gases, 7 July 1924, facsimile

In 1924 Bose proposes a new statistical derivation of Planck’s Law of Radiation. This derivation makes apparent that light quanta are not independent and distinguishable from each other. Einstein applies Bose’s method of light quanta to a material gas. This explains the thermal behavior of bodies at low temperatures and predicts a new state of matter, the Bose-Einstein condensation, which is produced in the laboratory for the first time in 1995.
