Galileo System

The European Galileo system will operate 30 satellites, as its basic equipment, in a height of 24,000 kilometres. Other than NAVSTAR ("GPS"), it occupies only three orbits, but by ten satellites each.

In addition to its important function as an independent, civilian alterative to GPS, it will offer an advanced failure safety conception.

It is planned to complete deployment of the Galileo system until 2008.
