Control grids for broadcasting valves

For radio waves to transmit speach or pictures, these informations are stamped on them. This is done via the control grid of the broadcasting tube.

In order to achieve high transmission rates and large ranges, the control grids have to be produced in graphite or molybdenium. Only using the laser one succeeds in cutting filigree structures into such extremely brittle materials.

The YAG laser, for example, may produce burr-free cuts with bars of 0.02 mm thickness in 0.1 mm thick molybdenium.
