Global Positioning System (GPS) - a few technical parameters

At least 24 satellites in a height of about 20.200 kilometres at six almost circular orbits which are displaced from each other by 60 degrees.

At least four satellites are positioned at each of these orbits. This guarantees that at almost all points of the Earth's surface and almost every time there are four satellites the signals of which can be received - i.e. that GPS is functioning.

With inclusion of the 24th satellite (Block IIA; Figure) and decommision of the last Block I satellite there is full operational capability.
