Einstein on the 200th Anniversary of Newton's Death, March 1927
Einstein writes a brief statement for publication in Nature on the 200th anniversary of Newton's death. The manuscript contains an appendix which Einstein evidently did not find easy to write. This appendix is a firm declaration of belief in the determinism of classical physics and thus a criticism of the indeterminism of quantum mechanics. In an almost religious tone, Einstein swears to the spirit of Newton and hopes that a new genius will come along who can show us that God does not throw dice to determine subatomic events.
